[hearing |alex serenading chandler at 4:39am]

train ride went smoothly, i met someone incredible as i ate cheese crackers, i'm home and i love it. i love the smell and the comfort and not having obligations. i see sagan on friday. i go to outback on saturday. i miss new york and many things/people associated with it already, but i'm gonna try and just live in the present.

i noticed today that i'm much older. i'm getting wrinkles and my face just looks...older. jason (guy i met) thought i was 21, and so did some ladies in the dining car. maybe it's just the lack of sleep though.

i love the world.

if i were to quit school right now, i would still be able to tell future employers i had attended "some college." meaning: i'm completely done with my first semester of college courses. and i think i...not aced, but did well on my finals. 36 hours until i see my family. :-)

"don't think of it as debt, think of it as an investment. in the instrument, but also in yourself."
-diane mellon, on my decision to buy a 10k jusek from the 40s

last night was super fun. me and liam sat outside in the gorgeous weather and ate pizza, smoked copious amounts, and just talked until 4am. of course, this meant i had only 8 hours of sleep before work today..but oh well. immediately after work i went uptown to david segal, tried out more cellos...found what i believe to be "the one," a gorgeous john jusek cello from the 1940s, "remastered" and warm. it vibrated my entire body...fucking fabulous. hopefully that and the 1,200 dollar bow will pull through...yipes.

i did meet a girl from juilliard, a cello major, and her 80k cello which sounded like...god. literally.

work is berserk. rather, i need to learn how to improv on cello and learn about blues and jazz. blah blah blah. how is everyone doing?

[hearing |Oliver! - Oliver!]

Today's outfit: skintight jeans, black knee-high boots, ridiculously low-cut striped pink shirt with a green see-through 3/4 length top over it.

During the seventy blocks I walked, I learned how to separate the gay men from the straight ones: If they weren't turning around, making catcalls, or otherwise fixating their eyes on my chest, I pronounced them gay. An almost-true estimate, seeing as the "gay" males made up about 30% of the censure.

PS More later.

Panic in the Streets of London [Sep. 17th, 2006|10:59 pm]
[feeling | gloomy]

Today was a pleasant one. I grabbed lunch from a McDonald's, then took the subway to 57th street and walked to Central Park. If you've never been to Central Park, dear readers, you're missing out; today especially, with eighty-degree weather and lots of blue, blue skies and grinning people. It was what I've been looking for in the city--grass, rocks (however synthetic they may be), sprinklers, and happy babies. I climbed (quite daringly, considering my choice of footwear), the biggest rock and sat atop it for an hour or so, meditating and reading Mann's Death in Venice.

Music I Love: Sunn O))), The Wailin' Jennys (Why didn't I know of them sooner?!?!?), We Are Scientists. (First two c/o Sagan Gay).

And now, a vague addendum brought to you by ABC and Viewers Like You, Thank You: It really sucks to want something for someone and not be able to give it to him/her. It seems like it's a choice on my behalf, but it's not...I mean, it IS, I guess, it's just some things, this ONE THING, aren't/isn't changeable. If I could make things perfect for you...any other way, I would. I'm sorry for not being able to be enough. You're doin' ok, kid, keep your head up high.

College [Sep. 10th, 2006|05:27 pm]
[feeling | determined]

Attention Everyone:

Unless NYU offers me a full ride for next year, I will be transferring out. My top three choices, in ascending order, are:

-USC-Columbia
-Warren Wilson College (Asheville, NC)
and
-Princeton University

I've been researching it, and I am astounded by the wonderfulness of Princeton. Rated #1 in the country for financial aid assistance, as well as boasting a CW faculty including CK Williams and Toni Morrison, Princeton has one of the nicest campuses in the country, and the students are among the happiest in the nation. Problem? 11% acceptance rate, and lower than that for transfers. I have to get published this year...for Princeton! \m/

laughing at myself [Jun. 12th, 2006|11:54 pm]
One day Timmy came home from school very excited. "Mommy, Mommy, Guess what? Today in English I got all the way to the end of the alphabet, and everyone else got messed up around 'P'!"

His mother said, "Very good, dear. That's because you're a cellist."

The next day, Timmy was even more excited. "Mommy, Mommy, guess what! Today in math I counted all the way to ten, but everyone else got messed up around seven!"

"Very good, dear," his mother replied. "That's because you're a cellist."

On the third day, Timmy was beside himself. "Mommy, Mommy, today we measured ourselves and I'm the tallest one in my class! Is that because I'm a cellist?"

"No dear," she said. "That's because you're 26 years old."
